TENSIONES A TRAVÉS DEL ESTRECHO DE TAIWÁN: IMPLICANCIAS PARA LA SEGURIDAD DEL ASIA PACÍFICO

Resumen
Las relaciones a través del estrecho de Taiwán entre los gobiernos de la República Popular de China, con sede en Beijing, y de la República de China (Taiwán, China Taipei), con sede en Taipei, además de la influencia militar y política de Estados Unidos en la zona, han sido desde 1949 un foco de potencial conflicto en la región de Asia Oriental. Luego de unos años de acercamiento comercial y político, las elecciones de nuevos presidentes en Taiwán y Estados Unidos ha crispado a la administración de Beijing, liderada por un Xi Jinping que ha impulsado a China al estatus de potencia regional y mundial capaz de eclipsar la hegemonía estadounidense en Asia Oriental. El incremento de confrontaciones entre las dos superpotencias, teniendo a Taiwán en medio, agita de una forma inédita esta región, lo que podría expandirse en todo Asia Pacífico. Este trabajo pretende identificar las potenciales amenazas provenientes de tres trascendentales actores en la zona del estrecho de Taiwán.
